Jake: [00:00:00] Hi, and welcome back to the Dial Podcast. I'm Jake von Duering, and I'm here with Lance Friggin’ Heppler.
Lance: Lance friggin Heppler. “Ice cream sandwich licker.”
Matt: Oh! Automatically, you just, you blew our Disney Oh, come on, man. That Disney contract was so sweet, and now we are You've had your, you've had your first bleep of the day.
Matt: Now we are sponsorless.
Jake: I heard Lance likes ice cream sandwiches, is that what that said?
Lance: That's what it said, something like that.
Matt: Sponsorless. We're sponsorless. Unless we can sneak some, our own sponsors into this, we are sponsorless. Love it. All right. To his right,
Jake: he returns the one and only Sir Ian Gibson.
Ian: I'm back. If you've missed your daily dose, weekly dose of Jolly Old England, here we are. The wanker
Jake: returns. Bringing out
Ian: well needed cosmopolitan global perspective to this podcast.
Jake: Yes. I love it. Yes. And everybody's favorite dialed podcaster. Mr. Matt Legrand. I'm [00:01:00] in the top four. Top four. top four of the dot,
Matt: maybe a distance forth.
Matt: Uh, what's up ladies and gentlemen of the internet. You guys look pretty good. Yeah. Decent. You look okay.
Jake: Yeah. Reasonable. All things considered.
Matt: All right.
Jake: Sweet. Hey, uh, it's been another week. You know what that means. Let's do some backfilling. Who would like to go first? Dibs.
Matt: I rode the e bike over here.
Matt: That's how much biking I've been doing. No, I think I've been consistently hitting the Tuesday night rides with Zwift. That's been fun. So if you guys are interested in joining the dialed team on Zwift, that's a fun ride to do. I've been doing the Tuesdays at 630. So that's tonight at 630. Six or six thirty six thirty.
Matt: Yeah, that's right. Okay. So yeah, come come come on over and drop me like a bad habit Like everyone else does and I'll ride the first five to ten minutes with you
Jake: Yeah, if you missed tonight or you want to join in me and you want to join in me in the future We generally put those out. We announced them on Strava.
Jake: We'll put all the details in there [00:02:00] However, Strava like we talked about last week No longer allows us to put hyperlinks in there that you need to join the wire on Swift and to get the ride and all That other stuff However, I've been posting them on the dialed podcast, not dialed podcast, the dialed cycling website under our blog.
Jake: So you can go in there and all of the links there. So if you're interested and you just want the details, want to know more about it, go to dialed cycling. com, go to the blog section and you'll see there,
Matt: there's some good functional links, functional links that work. That's nice. No, thanks. No, thanks to Strava.
Matt: Correct, so yeah on to my the rest of my backpedal mostly been running and swimming I've swam once or twice with the high school team at 6 a. m Oh, which is hilarious. I'm working
Lance: with those little fish
Matt: Yes. Well, the answer is, uh, the athletes that I'm working with are on a certain side of the pool, which means that I can keep up with them.
Matt: And then, uh, my kiddo who I'm super, super proud of is on a different side of the pool from the old man. And I can not keep up with him on the fast side of the pool. Right. And so his backstroke is [00:03:00] significantly faster than, than my last time. Then my freestyle
Jake: straight up raced.
Matt: Uh, we, so it's interesting because like.
Matt: We go on vacation and we'll do, we'll go find pools and stuff like that. And it was like, maybe two years ago, I could just pretty. Easily stomp him and then all of a sudden it's like, now I can't even keep up with his like warmup pace. . He's 12. Yeah, he, well, my oldest one is 14, but here's the kicker. My 12-year-old, I've got three kids.
Matt: My 12-year-old, just recently, I, I was timing his, his 1500 meter race and I was looking at his splits and I was like, ah, he went faster than my PR for a thousand. In the middle of his 1500. So I try to tell him like, well, the last time we raced last winter, I beat you. And now I'm just going to be like, I'm never racing you again because the last time we raced, I won.
Matt: And so the key is only race when you think you can win
Ian: when it comes to
Matt: your kids. So I got one more kid that I can beat for now, but it's not going to [00:04:00] be long. This is just the way it should be, Matt. I I'm, I'm proud. And also just like a little bit. hurt that I can't beat these kids. Cause I mean, I've been training for 14 years, right?
Matt: And here they come through and they just whoop my tail. Backpedal done.
Ian: Yeah. I wish I had more to say. Um, I did go back to the UK to visit my mom. My sister over there, which was good, a couple of days there and, um, picked up, picked myself up a gift on the way home in the form of a good COVID 19 infection.
Ian: So
Matt: I will say that if you're going to get COVID, this is the time to do it, right? It is. I mean, you're not trained, you don't care about anything.
Ian: I am right bang smack in the middle of my transition season. Basically, which means I'm not doing anything in particular.
Jake: Here's the stuff for lying, right? You just had started.
Jake: You're like, all right, I'm going to start getting back into shape. I'm going to start trimming down. I'm going to start losing the weight. I'm going to start getting my fitness back in. You [00:05:00] get COVID and through the process of like eating better and then you get COVID, you, you've lost some weight. That's good.
Jake: So it's kind of like a little
Ian: jumpstart there. I mean, it sucked. It was only eight days of, of my life and yeah, you're right. That's the day before. First
Jake: time off and your body's recovered and you lost the weight and now you get to like kind of ease back into it for the month of December, it's going to be good.
Jake: Well,
Ian: starting, I mean, starting that the fall weight loss campaign is always a challenge anyway. Uh, and so it was a bonus that I completely lost my appetite for, for a week, I guess. Better
Jake: than having to use tapeworms or something like that, right? The old tapeworms. standard tapeworms. You have to go to Mexico
Lance: for that.
Lance: Not the England. Lance only tapeworms again.
Ian: Anyway, it's done. Um, kind of getting back into it. I've been on swift a couple of times, been to the gym a couple of times and, uh, I'm ready to kind of start getting on it. Sweet. Yeah. Lance and [00:06:00] I, and Chris Sarrat are going to Tenerife in January. And if I don't put in the work full on right now, I'm just getting Suffer with those two.
Ian: So I'm completely motivated.
Lance: You're going to suffer with those two. No matter what, it's going to be seven or 8, 000 feet of climbing on every ride. Every ride is there's tons of is going to crush you guys. It's going to be hard for us to stay together anyway, because there's so much climbing. It's just
Ian: like our training camp.
Ian: We usually do in February, March is that you've got to train for training camp. This is training for training, for training camp, training,
Matt: for training, for training. Yeah. Yes. I love it.
Ian: That's me. Uh, I got nothing more to say. I don't think so.
Lance: Uh, yeah, I have switched to base mode. I've completely switched to base mode.
Lance: I've kind of taken out most of the intensity and just trying to do some longer hours, although I still find myself. Inexplicably going for certain segments because I'm [00:07:00] an idiot, so that's the way it goes. Um, I did end up going to the cyclocross race on Sunday evening up at the Washougal, uh, motocross park.
Lance: I was not planning on going. It, my daughter was in town, but then everything kind of melted away, and I had this free window, so I went and lined up. So, yes, it was a muddy, muddy mess. As it should be, though. Yeah. Come on. It was a night race. The, the, the Crossmas night race. Cyclocross. I don't know what he called it.
Lance: Was it
Ian (2): an Obra thing? It was. Oh, I didn't think I saw it. Yeah, it
Lance: was a cross under the lights or something. The Xmas lights night race.
Matt: Nailed
Lance: it. So there were Christmas like displays on the course. Uh, the first race was at like two third in the afternoon and it went through like 7 p. m. So there were a couple people that had fires, you know, there so you could stay warm.
Lance: It was cold It kind of only sprinkled for the first part of the day, and then it quit raining, but it got thick, nasty, [00:08:00] mud. It was really cold, but I still lined up. Of course, the 50 field had like 25 people in it, and like eight of the hitters all showed up. So a couple of guys came over from bend and that's nice to scare it.
Lance: He showed up
Jake: supporting, you know, Scott and the stuff that he's putting out there, even after like a long cross season, the cross crusades all wrapped up and people like kind of just want to pack it in, but
Lance: yeah,
Jake: they went out for one more last hurrah.
Lance: He was hoping to have about 150 people show up and he had almost 200 racers.
Lance: Yeah. So it, it was, it was really fun. It was good. Lots of Christmas lights? Lots of Christmas lights, uh, people dressed up in costumes. You got a front row call up if you had, if you were either in costume or had lights, like Christmas lights on your bike. Did you? I didn't have either because I literally made the decision to go do the race like an hour before.
Lance: Did
Matt: you bring your um, old biking leather chaps?
Lance: I did not bring any of my leather chaps. Oh my gosh. I should have.
Matt: Next time. That was a, that was a reference to a previous conversation before we pressed record on the [00:09:00] podcast. motorcycling days, his Harley days.
Jake: Lance Hepler once was a Harley Davidson. I was!
Matt: He has the outfits to prove it. Too bad this is a podcast and not a video.
Lance: Yep. I rode a Harley for a few years and Did you ever lay that down too? I never crashed a motorcycle. I was really cautious about that. I'd imagine. So, anyway, that's a whole other story. I did do the race. There were 25 people. I ended up seventh.
Lance: Wasn't, wasn't terrible. Um, I really don't have a top end at the moment. So it, I, it was fully what I expected. I had a great time. Lots of people there. The vibe was fantastic. Um, Carl Decker drove over and did both the cat, uh, One, two race and single speed and the single speed race. He won both. He was not leading until the last lap in both races.
Lance: He just, he has a traditionally slower start and he just grinds to the front. I think he just turned 50 or he's cross age 50. [00:10:00] So pretty amazing. Paul first, our own fault. Paul first took third in the one, two race. So that was very cool. It was, it was a ton of fun. The race was a blast. Everything was cool.
Lance: It's tough. Took me a day and a half to clean all my crap afterwards because it was filthy but uh, other than that I've been riding bikes every day. Good for you. That's it. Cool I got nothing. Jake. Nothing.
Matt: Have you been on the trainer? You know, you were because I saw you on the trainer. Yeah, I did the
Jake: Tuesday ride.
Jake: I I think I mentioned that I wasn't feeling 100 percent and I was just eh, you know kind of stuff and then I really haven't talked about it on the podcast, but I've got a surgery coming up this coming Monday and I've got stuff that I had to get done for that. And anyway, long story short, I just cyber Monday, cyber Monday.
Jake: Yep. I'm going to be getting cyber sliced. Should be fun. But, um, yeah, I just haven't been able to write as much and I have to take a little bit of time off, but it is what it is. So I'll get over it and yeah, we'll be back to it and do time. In the meantime, let's make podcasts. And pretend to be a poser.[00:11:00]
Jake: Cool. Um, I think, uh, yeah. Yeah, I think that's about it. Anything else? That's it. No? All right. Oh,
Matt: Champ Bailey's here. He's in
Lance: the house. Champ Bailey, we've got big cyclocross news this week. Okay. No, we don't.
Matt: Okay. Who's, who's racing? Do we have any big guns racing?
Lance: Uh, Ellie Easterbit is racing. Uh, Thibaut Nice is racing.
Lance: Michael Van Taernout, Lauren Sweek. These are all the The best cyclocrossers in the world that don't include Vanderpool, Wout, or Pidcock, yes. You take out those big three, and these are the best racers in the world. We had our very first, uh, UCI World Cup cyclocross race. Do you remember where it was? It was in Antwerp.
Lance: Okay. So Antwerp, Belgium, very cool course, big sand section, some sharp hills. Uh, Ellie Easterbit ended up winning it. Uh, Laurence Sweek was second. Michael, uh, Van Taurenout was third. So.
Ian: Elizabeth [00:12:00] won both days this last week. He won the Saturday race. Yeah.
Lance: Um, I can't remember where the Saturday race was. I can't remember.
Lance: It was, eh, I don't know. Anyway. Did your view
Jake: of him
Lance: change after
Jake: that whole debacle?
Lance: Little bit. Stomping on the bike? Yeah, little bit. Little bit. Lost all respect for the guy over that. I mean,
Jake: granted, you don't want to call people names, but you shouldn't react like that. I just, come on, man.
Lance: He's always kind of given off an air of Arrogance?
Lance: Dickness?
Lance: Our Disney sponsorship we
Matt: I thought maybe we'd be able to bring that sponsorship back under the belt, but no it is gone
Lance: But you know these guys that are like at the top of their game You're you're gonna you gotta have a bit of a competitive edge. I mean you can still be nice Well, I mean, people hated Kobe Bryant, you know, for a lot of different reasons.
Lance: Pogacha
Matt: is pretty nice on the, that is a good point. I mean, like the best in the world. He tells people when he's going to beat them and then he beats them and he does it nicely and he gives everyone a [00:13:00] high five afterwards. I mean, come on.
Jake: Have you ever seen anything like that from Wild or MVP or going back in the day, like a Sven Nys or something like that?
Jake: I mean, you just don't behave like that. It's just
Lance: no.
Jake: You don't
Lance: see that stuff very often. I mean, let the other guy be the, um, Richard, um, Vanderpool, Vanderpool elbowed Felipe Nystrom in a race last year. Cause Felipe got in the way and then immediately apologized. And then Felipe said, Oh my gosh, it was totally my fault.
Lance: He should have hit me harder. And because of it, I'm going to quit my season. And then Vanderpool said, no, don't quit your season. You're out there fulfilling your dreams. Yeah. It's all good. You made one little mistake. Keep breaking. You know, so things could have been done differently. I think
Ian: there's a lot more of that dickish behavior goes on than we see though.
Ian: I mean, you know, when the cam, the, the, the top guys, the cameras are on them, so you got to see everything, but there's probably a lot goes on in the background.
Jake: Speaking of leap, is he taking another run at it again this year?
Lance: I'm not sure. I kind of haven't, [00:14:00] I'm not sure. He's been at about half of. Our Oregon cyclocross races.
Lance: And I don't think he went to Pan Ams this year. Um, I'm not sure if he's going to have a European campaign this year or not. He's 41. He can't hang with the 25 year olds on this, on the UCI, you know, course, but, but because he's the Costa Rican athlete and he gets points, he's able to go if he can go. So
Ian: that, that's That has always amazed me as well, like that it shows you the standard of writing at those European cyclocross events that somebody like Felipe, he'll come out on your average group ride like the Salvi shootout and just destroy everybody.
Ian: Yeah. Every PIR is right there in the lap. You know, you can't keep up with him. Which makes
Matt: sense.
Ian: I, I, he made a jump from the pack a couple of years ago to try and bridge to the brake and I just latched onto his wheel and went as hard as I could on his [00:15:00] wheel and he rode me off of it.
Lance: Still
Ian: couldn't hit it.
Ian: And yet when he, when it comes to the world. World cup races, you know, he, he gets lapped and
Matt: he gets lapped. Yep. Yep.
Ian: So it just shows you what an amazing high standard those races are at.
Matt: What kind of watts do you think you were pushing for that? Like short amount of time that you were on his wheel?
Ian: Um, at least 450, 500 watts.
Ian: So he was probably, he was probably
Matt: doing, you know, 550 or more
Ian: and
Matt: he just was able to hold it.
Ian: Yeah. And he's a smaller guy, right? Yeah. Unbelievable. It's
Matt: not a lot of, not, you're not picking up on a lot of aero advantage by getting on his wheel.
Ian: Yeah, exactly.
Jake: I can remember one time racing with him out of PR.
Jake: Um, I, I think it was one of the earlier times that I did like a one, two race. And he was obviously there and I know that he got some points during the race. And for whatever reason, coming into the final, I'm like, he's in front of me. And I'm [00:16:00] like, Oh, that's, that's a good wheel. That's perfect. Yeah. You know, I don't know what kind of Watts he can throw down, but at the time I was pretty strong and like, maybe I can like ride his wheel.
Jake: Cause he started to go early and I'm like, all right, let's ride this wave. And I think there was somebody in front of him and that person pulled off and we probably had 150 meters ago. I'm like, Oh, this is perfect. He he's riding and all of a sudden, like about a hundred hours, he's like, he just kind of sat up and then Mike.
Jake: Oh, like I lost my whole life momentum. I had to go around and this whole train blows by me on a Sunday. I was like, son of a biscuit eater. So I'm like, I've never known him to sit up, but he just decided that he, he wasn't going to do it. I don't know if he was feeling off that day or if he had enough points already.
Jake: But I don't know. That was just, he's,
Ian: he's got a lot of strength. He's, he's super wise in the pack. Like he knows when to make a move. He knows who to go with. He, and that's, that's what blows me away that if anybody from the local. Cycling scene here in Portland area could race UCI world cup standard. It would be Felipe.
Ian: And, um, he's, he's basically just [00:17:00] slightly below that, that level. Unfortunately, it's interesting. Just super nice. Shows you the caliber of people out there
Jake: as soon as you think you're fast. There's doors off.
Lance: Uh, we do not have a, um, a timeline on if Wout is going to do any cyclocross races, if Vanderpool is, or if Pidcock.
Lance: None of them have really announced if they're going to. They've all, uh, Hinted at it that they're gonna do some UCI races, but they haven't actually announced it yet. So who knows what'll happen there On the women's side Fem Van Empel won the UCI Race in Antwerp as well She is our current world champion, I believe and she had a pretty dominant race So it was kind of fun to watch her so cool other than that There's not a whole, yeah, champ out, champ out,
Jake: champ this.
Jake: One more thing to add on. You were talking about Pidcock. I read an article that he's likely [00:18:00] not going to do any cross racing this year and that he might actually dump, um, some mountain biking stuff so that he can solely focus on the road stuff. And it sounds like they've kind of put their little scuttlebutt or his scuttlebutt with Ineos aside.
Jake: And he's going to commit to trying to do something more spectacular on the road. What are your thoughts on that?
Lance: That's pretty interesting. I mean, Pidcock, he's good in like one day races and when it gets kind of nasty, cause I clearly he's a world class mountain biker and he's a world class cyclocrosser.
Lance: He can do both those things very well. Um, but then again, I've won that crap a hundred times, so Yeah, well you've got
Jake: that and then there's like, alright, well he's not getting any younger. Not to say that he's old by any means at all, but if you really want to, like, focus on doing well at the road stuff, it kind of does make sense to start trimming some of that other thing, or those other things out of your training.
Jake: Out of your competitive calendar and really just kind of focus on doing the thing that you want. I think
Ian: for sure he could [00:19:00] be a grand tour contender for sure. He's got, he's got the build, he's got the power, he's got the maturity now or coming on. And if, if he had that, um, if he was the designated leader of a strong squad, I think he could, he could.
Ian: Pull off a grand tour podium at least interesting for sure
Lance: in contrast Vanderpool there are rumors that Vanderpool is going to have a mountain bike Agenda next year really? Yeah, I
Matt: Really think these guys are just playing They're playing bikes. Yeah, which is awesome, right? Which is kind of cool for us to get to watch right?
Matt: So,
Jake: uh, it should be interesting. I don't know. I just, one more last little question. Who has better, a better chance of being a more established and more successful grand tour guy, uh, Pitcock or Evanpole? Oh,
Lance: Evan
Jake: Pohl. Evanapol,
Lance: I'm sure, yeah. He's such a good time trialist that, that just steps you up in the Grand Tour.
Jake: Can he hold it together for [00:20:00] more than three days, or four days, or can he hold something together for three weeks? You mean Evan Pohl? Yeah. He's also
Matt: young, and I think he'll get there. Like, he Well,
Lance: he showed it in Vuelta. Yeah. He was, what was he, third in the Vuelta? Or was he second this last year? He was on the podium in the Vuelta.
Matt: Hmm.
Lance: So I can't remember if that was
Matt: in November. I can't remember.
Lance: Yeah,
Jake: we didn't have all the big hitters there though, so.
Lance: No, it was missing a few big hitters, but still. But still, that's still. Solid people. I mean,
Ian: in the age of Pogacar and, and, um. Vinegar, yeah. Vinegar, it's going to take somebody with extraordinary genetic, um, Um, makeup, you know, like, like a venipal to make a dent in that.
Ian: Yeah, because you know, you, you just got to have the, um, the genetics and the talent.
Jake: Gotcha. All right. Well. Champ, you gonna go out again? You done? Champ out. Again. Alright, I'll shut up too. Alright, cool. Let's move on to our little new segment. Um, [00:21:00] the fan mail thing that we've still yet to name. I kind of kick around the idea we used to do the listener hot lap.
Jake: I'm like, yeah, maybe we can kind of make that be part of the thing. And then we had a listener chime in. Suggested Fred Mail. Fred
Lance: Mail, ,
Matt: which is a real possibility.
Lance: Yeah. ,
Matt: although
Jake: that, do we call it Fred mail or mail for the Fred Male? For the Fred. The Freds are
Matt: the ones that are responding, that's for sure.
Lance: Hey, Fred, this, that's what I have to say. Fred, you Fred, you? Yeah,
Matt: I'm, I'm still open to having more suggestions through our portal, whatever our suggestion portal is. Where, where do you find that? It says Text us. Text us. Text us. Yeah. Okay.
Jake: And again, just to kind of reiterate on that, it's a one way. Um, one way, uh, message there.
Jake: We cannot respond to that. We can just see it and we, we don't see your name. We just get the last four digits of your phone number, which is, that's about it. So we can refer to you by the last four digits of your phone number. But, um, we did get somebody that suggested that Fred Mellon thought that was kind of funny.
Jake: Um, I don't know if that's something we'll go with, um, because I don't wanna be calling [00:22:00] people. Freds, uh, Ian, what is a Fred or Lance? What is a Fred? It's somebody,
Matt: someone new to cycling,
Lance: someone new to cycling and just doesn't know the unwritten rules or where the right thing or they just are a little awkward or a little off.
Lance: Yeah. So it's a
Ian: little bit derogatory. It is a little bit derogatory, which we don't, probably not the best option to use for us.
Jake: We are the friends, but
Ian: You speak for yourself.
Lance: Yeah, I'm still wearing black shoes, so I haven't, I haven't
Ian: upped my game. That's a real Fred thing.
Jake: Anyway, we'll, we'll keep working on that.
Jake: Um, other than that, I don't think we had any, uh, buddy chime in on that, but if you do want to ask a question, make a comment, you want us to talk about something, 100 percent throw it out there. We get all of those notifications and we will address just about all of them, um, within reason, if you will. Um, there was some, some listener that sends something and something about suck it.
Jake: I don't know [00:23:00] who that could have been. That was me. Yeah. There was no secret there, but yeah. Chime in, let us know if you've got a, uh, an idea for the name of that, as well as, uh, just kind of let us know what you want to talk about, or if you've got any input or feedback for us, that'd be fantastic. Cool.
Jake: All right, moving on. It is that time of year, boys. It is Tuesday, the week of Thanksgiving. So Thanksgiving's coming up on Thursday. And then the day after that is Black Friday! Black Friday. And then you get Feels
Matt: ominous, like the Black Friday following. But it's just deals. Yeah. Holiday deals. Yep. And
Jake: then you got Cyber
Matt: Cyber Monday.
Jake: What's Saturday?
Matt: Um, there's one in there somewhere. I don't think there's anything for Saturday, but there's one like giving Tuesday.
Jake: That is this coming Tuesday. I don't know what Saturday is. Small business Saturday. Small business Saturday. That's it. That's correct. Yes. Nicely done. Thank you. So you get all that stuff coming up and it's just that time of year where everybody starts throwing out all the killer deals.
Jake: And we wanted to try and [00:24:00] spotlight a few of those that you might want to try and take, take advantage of. Um, I'm going to throw it around the table. We've all got kind of a little list of things here that we want to, you know, Let people know about
Matt: mostly Jake and I, right. We have, we have got all the deals and you guys just, your witty commentary is appreciated and try to keep the cursing to a minimum.
Matt: We don't want to lose our sponsorship. No promises, no promises.
Jake: Uh, Matt, what's the first one you got? Okay.
Matt: So people tend to follow me for watch stuff. So I've got watch deals. I've got cycling stuff, but of course I've got swimming and running stuff. I can keep those to a minimum. If you guys don't care about that stuff.
Matt: I'm planning on posting a video about Black Friday deals as soon as I can, which probably means it's going to come after Black Friday because I'm that good at YouTube. But, um, starting with watches. Uh, I think the Suunto Vertical is a really nice ultra distance style watch. So if you're into ultra marathoning and things like that, the battery life goes forever and it's 200 off.
Matt: It's a pretty good deal on a Suunto [00:25:00] watch. Suunto makes good watches. Um, there, there's some things that are missing. Like someone was just asking me today about. Hey, how do I get this thing to broadcast my heart rate to my cycling computer? Suunto watches don't do that, oddly enough, but almost every other watch does.
Matt: Uh, the watch review that I'm trying to get out even before the Black Friday video is this watch called the Amazfit T Rex 3, and I was showing it to Jake on the last podcast. It's super nice, uh, big watch, big display in a really tiny price. Normally it's 270 bucks on sale right now for 10, 000. For Black Friday or holiday or whatever for 234 bucks.
Matt: Wow. So everyone's kind of comparing this $234 watch to Garmin's brand new Phoenix eight because it has a speaker and it has, you know, scuba dive, you know, uh, it's, it, it's kind of all set up and to line up as far as specs go with. Garmin's Fenix 8. Super cool watch. Very, very interesting. I don't think it's quite as accurate [00:26:00] as some Garmin watches.
Matt: I'll go into it.
Ian: Significantly cheaper though, right? It's like a quarter of the price, right? And so
Matt: That's kind of the thing in the video where I'm going to talk about, like, here's all the features that does a lot of stuff and it does a lot of things pretty well. So at a quarter of the price, you know, is this something that you should consider?
Matt: And I think for a lot of people, yeah, it's definitely a good option. And so, um, yeah, I'm excited about posting this full review video as soon as I can get it edited and out the door, um, from Garmin and, and maybe Jake will correct me on some of this stuff. The venue three, which I posted a video about recently.
Matt: really nice watch kind of does everything. It's a little bit more in that smart kind of smarter type watch because it has a microphone and a speaker. You can do things like, um, talk to your watch and you can at least access your, uh, smart assistant on your smartphone. So on the iPhone, that's, Um, Siri, for example.
Matt: And so from Siri you can kind of do a lot of stuff. You can reply to text messages, you can make calls, you can, you know, do things like that. So you can, [00:27:00] you can at least have access to, uh, a lot of smartphone features because it has a microphone in a speaker. Sure, sure. Yeah. So the venue three is a hundred dollars off from what I've seen, which is
Jake: killer deal.
Jake: Yeah. Which is a killer deal. They come in at 4, 4 40, 4 50, yeah. Four 50 normally, and it's
Matt: like three 50 now. Yeah. It's a really good deal. It's a pretty good deal. Yeah. Um, I don't remember exact prices. I want to say that the, uh, I'm, I'm getting asked a lot in comments about prices on watches and which watches where, and which one should I get?
Matt: But the, um, the forerunner series is excellent. It's kind of geared towards runners. Um, but, you know, they're very typically used by triathletes. Uh, their bottom of the barrel one is well, the one that I suggest a lot. is the, uh, one 65. It's not technically bottom of the barrel, but it's a very nice watch with an AMOLED screen, very bright, lightweight.
Matt: I recommend it to a lot of my runners. I want to say that's 200 bucks instead of like two 50 bucks off something like that. And then, um, if you're willing to like use this discount and get a slightly better watch, [00:28:00] the two 65 is an awesome watch. Pretty much does everything, all the triathlon stuff. The only thing it doesn't have is like mapping and golf.
Matt: And that watch is normally like 450. Correct. I don't know what the deal is. 350. Whoa, that's good.
Jake: Yeah, it's the same deal as the Venue, so that's a really good deal. So I
Matt: would, I would probably, if you're heavy into training, that's probably the way I would go. Unless you need mapping and golf, in which you're gonna get bumped up into a much more expensive price category.
Matt: Even though some of those have deals as well. The 955 is kind of like, the top of the line forerunner series. Um, and I'm guessing that's a hundred bucks off too.
Jake: Yep. They retail for 600 and they're on sale for five. Nice. Yeah.
Matt: Where's the best place to get Garmin stuff, Jake? Um, Dialed Cycling. Yeah, that's pretty good place to go.
Matt: You can go on the website.
Jake: We carry a lot of that stuff too. And if, uh, for some reason we don't have it in stock, you can just ping us and we'll make sure to get it to you in a very, very quick amount of time. Nice. Yeah. We carry a lot of the watches and they've been super popular and yeah. [00:29:00]
Matt: Yeah.
Jake: Good stuff.
Matt: Good options for sure.
Jake: Cool. Lance. Yeah. Do you have any deals that you've come across that you think people need to jump on?
Matt: Is there anything that you're thinking like you need to make a purchase around on Friday? Are you going to be like on the bike and not paying attention on Friday? I'm
Lance: probably going to be on the bike and not paying attention.
Lance: I'm going to be in Boise. I'm not even going to be around here. Are you really? Yeah. Oh, I know that. Are
Matt: you thinking like, is there, here's my question to you guys. You guys probably already know this off the top of your head, Are there companies like Training Peaks or Strava or what other like subscription services?
Matt: I know this is totally off subject, but I use like Adobe products a lot. And so I just renewed my Adobe yearly thing. And it bugs me when I look back at my billing cycle and I was paying. Twice the price for like a whole year, I think that I usually try and get this deal that they have every year, which is basically like half price right
Jake: now is the best time of year to subscribe, renew things like the subscription based things, because you always get a killer deal.
Jake: And if you can lock in and if you can afford it, pay for a whole year, get that. And then you'll get the same deal this time next year, [00:30:00] as opposed to like being like March or something like that. I
Ian: saw that training peaks had something going on. I'm not sure exactly what the deal was, but training peaks premium.
Ian: Yeah. On my list as well. And I believe it is
Jake: 20 or 25 percent off. I'll probably pull that up really quick. It sounds like Lance might be doing that in
Matt: the past. I've done that deal in the past. And I feel like 5%. I mean, it's like, if you're going to use this stuff anyway, get the deal. I just feel like I've, I've used the deal in the past.
Matt: And then I'm like, I'm not really using training peaks to its full. I don't know. I, I sometimes do, because I do like to have, um, to enter in workouts before you do them. And training pieces are really great place to do that. I just feel like I'm not using it to its full capacity, you know, full capacity for sure.
Matt: Here's another
Jake: question. That's just to use the platform. Do they have some of their coaching programs on sale? Like They probably do. I don't know.
Ian: Um, well, Training Peaks, Training Peaks don't really have a coaching product. Well, they've got the coaches
Jake: that have their programs on there. Do the coaches run [00:31:00] deals or like specials for their programs this time of year?
Jake: Like if you wanted to download like a road racing package for six months or whatever.
Ian: Um, I would have to look on Training Peaks store. Um, I don't know. Were
Matt: you working on your own like package? program. I feel like we talked about that or maybe that was someone else. Were you talking about doing your own like, um, like pre packaged plan, non coaching thing?
Ian: Yeah. You can, so you can go to the training peaks store and shop for a pre built training. Plan. So I do have a couple that You do have one? Yeah. Nice. I did my winter, uh, weight training, uh, resistance training, uh, program is in there. I think it's like 39 bucks. Um, there's, there's so much, so many things in there, but training peaks is, is built around to get the most out of it.
Ian: To, to answer your question, training peaks is, is really made for coaches to interact with clients, right? So, yes, it works. Great. As a kind of a diary to [00:32:00] if you are working on your own Mm-Hmm. , you record, you workout, you can go back in and analyze your own rides. But to get the most outta training peaks, you work with a coach.
Ian: Sure. And most of those coaches, including myself, uh, include a training peak subscription in the coaching package.
Ice Cream Guy: Nice.
Ian: So you get training peaks premium. And now I think it's even better deal because. training peaks
Ice Cream Guy: IndieVelo.
Ian: IndieVelo training peaks, uh, virtual is included in your subscription. So currently
Jake: free, but I think starting in March, if I'm not mistaken, it's going to be a part of the premium package and that's how you can use that platform.
Jake: So, yeah. So if I
Matt: came to you right now. You said you might have a couple of spots left for coaching. Yeah. If I came to you right now and said, hook me up with a deal for coaching, what you got?
Ian: Well, I have, well.
Matt: Is Dow Performance
Jake: Coaching going to be running a Black Friday special? While we're talking about it.
Ian: Yes. In fact, um, you'll get, uh, 50 [00:33:00] off, um, a month, your first month of coaching. That's fantastic. Yeah. It's a good way to do it. And it's usually, my prices are kind of at the bottom end. It's good value.
Jake: Yeah. It's good value though. I mean. Yeah. You, uh, provide an excellent service and great hands on good coaching and the price is reasonable to there are coaches out there that are charging upwards of four or 500 bucks a month and yours is right around 200.
Jake: I don't, yeah,
Ian: 1. 95. So I don't know how much more you would get for twice the price. Right. So it's just a
Jake: bit more handholding, supposedly. They're giving themselves access to themselves a little bit more, but,
Ian: um, Anyway,
Matt: you have a couple of spots open.
Ian: I am trying to, I am putting a cap on how many athletes I'm going to work with this winter.
Ian: And I've got three spots left open and 50 bucks off the first month and no obligation after that. So try it if you like it. I'll give you 50 bucks off the first [00:34:00] one. Good call. Is that the same
Jake: 50 bucks you just gave to Matt to tell this little? Yeah. Same 50 bucks. Same 50 bucks. So we need somebody to sign up.
Jake: He's actually costing me a hundred bucks. No, he's out a hundred bucks. Right. There's an affiliate link in there, Matt. It's getting paid. Uh,
Matt: we, so last week you weren't here, but we talked a lot about Strava. and how they're turning off third party programs to, it was kind of a big kerfuffle last week or whatever.
Matt: Um, Rainmaker had done a ton of like deep dives into kind of like what's going on here and how it affects people and how it's really not a very nice thing for Strava to do to its customers. Um, my question on black Friday stuff is a, we've already mentioned that you guys are all, Premium Strava members and that you're not gonna change your mind You're still gonna pay Strava even no matter how they treat their customers Even if they come over here and slap you on the behind you're still gonna hand them your dollars They have any deals.
Matt: Have you guys seen anything from them? Or here's a better question Do they typically have a Black Friday deal because it's technically as we're recording. This is not Black Friday Yeah,
Jake: not yet I don't recall seeing anything and [00:35:00] I don't recall there ever being anything that I can think of off the top of my head that they've offered in terms of a Like a cyber black Friday, cyber Monday.
Ian: First of all, you, you can't say, Oh, there's three days left and then it's going to be black Friday. It's black Friday already. I mean, I,
Ice Cream Guy: I
Ian: remember the time where people used to rush into the stores at four o'clock in the morning because it was black Friday, but yeah. It's already Black Friday and it will be for the next two weeks.
Jake: Yeah, um, I've been saying Black Friday stuff since October. So yeah. And also I feel
Ian: like, uh, Strava don't, they don't really need to offer any discounts. According to, uh,
Lance: according to Reddit, they do not offer a Black Friday deal. Okay. There's no Strava Black Friday. I
Matt: think that's good for us to know because just like training peaks, it might be one of those things where eventually we get to the point where once a year we re up our premium Strava.
Matt: I saw One deal from them and you guys can laugh your tails off it was give the gift of subscription and get a pair of socks and the socks say something like if you if If [00:36:00] this run or this ride isn't on Strava, did it really happen or something like that? I don't know
Lance: so you could you could gift the yearly subscription to somebody which is 80 bucks for the year I think it's 80 bucks for the year for Strava if you pay, if you pay for the full year in advance.
Lance: So if you, if you gift an 80 thing, they'll send you a 8 pair of socks? They look, the socks didn't look that great.
Matt: But yeah, it could be worse.
Jake: They could be a lot worse. They could have my face on them.
Matt: Oh, yes.
Lance: I have a pair of those socks! I do too
Matt: now. I didn't go to the party, but I was, I was, Like, a pair of socks, so we gotta go ride with that, we'll ride with Jake and we'll just be like, I've been to where the socks with this face on Jake face socks.
Ian: It is a good point there, right? These subscription services, if you can lock in right now, um, a promotional then that's something that you're saving all year long. Yeah,
Jake: you can save a significant amount of money on some of these things. And I have to unfortunately use a [00:37:00] lot of things for work and I've intentionally.
Jake: Held off just to take care of them now. And then you'll get the renewal notice that'll come up and then you got to make sure that you get that same deal. Yeah. So, yeah. I think
Ian: people are just getting buried under subscriptions. So I've just personally, I've just canceled two prescriptions.
Matt: I always make that same mistake.
Matt: I always say prescriptions. I
Ian: canceled two subscriptions this week already. Cause it's just stuff you don't need.
Jake: It's that time of year too, where, um, It's a good time to like unsubscribe from a lot of email lists that how did I get on this list? That's how my video is going to
Matt: start off. It's like, this is the time of year that you've got to unsubscribe.
Matt: Get warm up that unsubscribe button.
Ice Cream Guy: Love it.
Matt: Um, okay. Back to watches because I know I totally got sidetracked talking about other stuff. Go for it. Um, I wanted to ask you about unadvertised deals. So the watch that everyone wants at this point right now, the hottest watch on the market, in my [00:38:00] opinion, is the Garmin Phoenix eight.
Matt: How can people find a deal? How can they, is there anything that people can do to find any sort of discount on this watch that sometimes costs as much as I think it costs over a thousand bucks, even for that entry level one, the, It's a super nice watch. It has a microphone, it has a speaker, it has AMOLED, it's Garmin so you know it's good for cycling, for swimming, for running, uh, you can even connect ANT devices, power meters, everything works with this watch, everything has to because Garmin kind of demands like You know, if it doesn't work with Garmin, you know, does it, does it really work?
Matt: So anyway, people can find a deal. The best place
Jake: would be to go watch a Matt LeGrand video. Oh, okay. YouTube. So there's, there's a discount code in there and that can give you some instant gratification. If you want that. I
Matt: want to say that something like
Ian: Matt is just like this Segway generator today, right?
Ian: I want
Matt: to say that my discount is 8 percent that if you use my name and the discount code on dialed, Website. Yeah. Which works everywhere. Yeah.
Jake: It's free [00:39:00] shipping and you get that discount. However, if you want to go sign up for the, uh, the newsletter, which you can get on our mailing list, um, I think we've only sent out like a small handful of emails this year, so we're not going to bombard you.
Jake: We want to just send out good quality information, fun stuff and some deals. And if you want to go sign up for that, you will see something come through. Um, I'm not going to disclose what that percent is cause I don't think I technically can, but know that there will be a deal coming through that might be worth it.
Jake: So
Ian: Garmin is not. Um, I was, I've always thought of Garmin like Apple, whereas it's, if you want a Garmin, you're going to pay full price for it. Is that not the case?
Matt: They have deals. Like we were just talking about all these watches that were a hundred bucks off or whatever. It's just that what you won't typically see is really good deals on a watch.
Matt: That's brand new that they just announced. The latest and greatest thing. Which, which is this. And the Phoenix 8 is the latest and greatest. It's the latest greatest. It's their top of the line watch. But you
Lance: can find that watch with a discount. On Black Friday,
Matt: we are saying you're not allowed. Okay. So you're not going to find that watch discounted anywhere.
Matt: However, we think [00:40:00] that if you hop on the newsletter at the dialed cycling website, dialed cycling lab. com. If you hop on that newsletter, we think people are going to realize that there's a deal for them there on that watch
Jake: in the United States, as opposed, as opposed to the UK, and we've talked about this before, they've got this thing called map.
Jake: Which is your minimum advertised price, which you have to abide by. And when you are a dealer for say Garmin, you sign this agreement to say that you will never sell their products or advertise their products under map pricing. And we get emails from them all of the time saying, all right, we're going to have a map holiday, or we're going to have a, you can run a discount on this particular watch from this time to this time.
Jake: And all of that stuff came out. So across the board. The board and all the different people that carry Garmin stuff. You'll see the, the holidays, uh, deal. So, you know, talking about the watches that Matt was talking about, you can go to the website, you can see those discounts. If you go to our website, you'll see those discounts.
Jake: The Phoenix is not one of the watches that's on that. So those will stay full price through the entire. You know the entirety of this this holiday season, however, [00:41:00] um, you cannot violate that map price privacy or policy But you can sell whatever you want. You can sell it lose money if you want to you can sell it at a discount For whatever you want to do, but you just can't advertise that so if you join the email list You'll get a discount code that you can use and that's how that works That's what your little workaround is there and we'll be happy to take care of folks and I've actually had a few people since they've launched that listen to the podcast that have reached out and say, Hey, are you guys going to do anything?
Jake: Are you doing anything special with the Phoenix? I'm like, absolutely. Here's the code. Try that out. And they're like, Oh, sweet. And then we'll ship it out to them. They're happy as a clam. So
Matt: it's a pretty good deal because literally you can't find a deal anywhere. On this watch and it's like, okay, well here here's the deal.
Matt: It's a pretty pretty nice setup Yeah, so i'm excited to talk about that on my video. Eventually if I mean, I don't I won't be able to talk about it technically, but I'll talk around it winking the best I can we'll see um,
Jake: i'm gonna stay in the vein of garment and I think this is probably the One of the best deals that i've seen for both of them and it's the varia radars.
Jake: You've got the rc Rct [00:42:00] 715 which is the one with the camera in it and that one has been 400 and they really haven't run too many deals on that and I think The deals that they have run have not even come close to this. They're on sale for 100 bucks off right now It's 25 off. It's a lot trick that particular radar Wow, and then they've got their rtl 515 which has been like their workhorse for many many years now They've got to be due for a new one of these at some point in time.
Jake: We'll see, um, time will tell, but those are on sale right now for 150 and that they're normally 200. So again, 25 percent off that is a smoking deal for those. And if you're not running one of those, you got to get one.
Matt: So wait, so both of the radars are 25 percent off. Correct. So except for the high end one with the camera is no that one too.
Matt: It's that's a hundred bucks off A hundred bucks off the less
Jake: expensive one is 50 bucks off, but they both work out to 25 percent off Okay, so it's smoking deal. Nice.
Matt: Okay
Jake: They actually
Matt: have another one that's even smaller without it doesn't have the flashing light. It just has the radar component Yeah, those I don't know what no one wants that thing.
Jake: Yeah, you you [00:43:00] need the light then light needs We would when those work nice is it if you've already got like a nice light, you know Whatever it could be and you want to keep that back then you just want to add a second You know device to your thing and you want to have the radar component you can do that I don't know if it really makes a lot of sense Those normally are 150 bucks and they are on sale for 99.
Jake: 99 right now. So okay, that's a decent little deal Yeah, but I would definitely recommend the ones with the lights and just keep it all in there
Ian: Love my radar. I'm really not a big gadget guy on the bike But I if I go out and ride without
Yeah.
Ian: Which happens because it frequently runs out of batteries just when I need it.
Ian: Uh huh. I'm lost. I, I, I feel vulnerable on the road without it. I feel naked right now. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
Matt: Yeah, that's a really good, it's a really good gift idea if you do care about a cyclist and you have someone that you're shopping for. That's one of those things where people are like, I don't need that thing.
Matt: I can turn around and look or whatever. Yeah, you should start using it. You should turn around and look for sure. But the problem is like everyone I've ever [00:44:00] shown this item to they're like, oh, thank God. Thank God. I have this now. I mean, it's a fantastic device. It's probably the, it's like you don't have to have a watch, all the watches I talk about.
Matt: You don't have to have all this like tech crap. You don't even need a cycling computer. But you have to have some way to see that radar data. You could use your phone or whatever, clip to the front of your bike, but man, that radar is fantastic to have. It is. It's, it's, it's one of those things like don't really want the people that listen to our podcast to get killed by a car.
Matt: Like, please, please go out and get a radar.
Jake: It's not going to keep you from getting killed, but it's, it's going to give you a heads up. It's going to allow you to put yourself in the most optimal position and, you know, Get over and I've, I've even had people cause Lance and I've done videos on those. I think you've done a video on that as well.
Jake: And we've had people like, you should never get over for a car. I'm like, I don't necessarily agree with you. I mean, I don't think that we should be riding on the edge of the dirt and whatnot, but we should get over and give that car the ability to pass us safely. A little bit wider of a berth.
Matt: That's what I do too.
Matt: I ride. A little bit more out into the road until I know a car is about to pass and then I slide [00:45:00] over. I do that for a couple of reasons. One, it shows the car like, hey, I'm trying to help you out. But it also is like, if they're gonna scream past me and try to like buzz me, then I'm sliding over a little bit, they're gonna, they're gonna miss the buzz or whatever it is.
Matt: And then, and then they're going to get the finger. I
Jake: wholly agree with you. And that's what I've always said. They're going to roll their coal. Yeah. It's goodwill on our behalf to get the hell out of their way and to give them as much room as we possibly can. And let's be honest, like if you're out driving your car and some guys riding his bike and he's just right smack in the middle of the lane and it's 35 miles an hour and he's going 19 or 18 or whatnot.
Jake: Yeah. And you come up on him like, dude, just move over so I can come around you a little bit safer. And even me as a cyclist will look at that guy and say, come on, man, you gotta do better. You gotta get over, get out of the way. Well, yeah,
Ian: but I find that for me, the safest way, say if I'm on a road and they, and the shoulder disappears and it suddenly gets narrow and there's a car coming on the other side fast, [00:46:00] I think whatever happens, the car behind me, Is either going to buzz me or put me in danger.
Ian: And in those circumstances, I'll ride out from the curb to purposely take the lane, slow that car down. And you've got to kind of have faith at
Jake: some point. Yeah, that's a good point right there too. And I, I agree with you in that situation because. What's going to happen is if that person goes to pass you and there's a car coming, they're going to avoid the car coming at them and look at you as like a less expendable, less impact kind of a thing.
Jake: And you're going to end up in the bushes and he's going to be fine. And everybody's going to keep going. And yeah, you're going to be in a bad way. I mean, it is riding the lane. Yeah.
Ian: You take the lane. It is riding defensively. It's, it's, but it takes a leap of faith sometimes that that vehicle is going to.
Ian: Give you that space. Yeah. Yeah. You just got to make the decision that the radar helps you make those decisions and it's, and it stops you getting surprised by traffic, you know, which is, which is good.
Jake: And [00:47:00] today people buzzing around with their EVs or Tesla's and whatnot. You don't always hear these people coming to you.
Jake: So that gives you that little bit of extra, like, Oh, there is a car coming kind of a thing. And what I really like about them is it's like. If there's five cars back there, I've got five dots. And I know that five cars are going to come around and then I just, I'm not going to like just assume that one car comes around and I can jump back out there and I'm going to all of a sudden be pulling in front of somebody.
Jake: But I
Matt: find myself doing that. And, and you also see people that without radars or whatever, they'll start to like, okay, a car pass and they'll start to lean back out and you're like, dude, dude, there's more, there's more coming. Like careful, careful. Back to deals. Yes. Uh, Wahoo. It's, okay, so, I don't think Wahoo's running a deal yet, but the plan, I think, for them is to start on Black Friday, and I, all I know is 30 percent off of bike trainers, uh, pedals, and cycling accessories.
Matt: That's what I've read. 30 or up to 30% off. Correct. So, well , Wahoos gonna have some sort of deal at some point.
Jake: Yeah, and I love the Wahoo stuff. They have had their trainers on sale for some time now [00:48:00] and it's not gonna be 30% on on top of that. Those prices are all gonna stay the same. They're not gonna change and they're just gonna call that Black Friday, even though those have been the prices since, I don't know, like late summer if I'm not mistaken.
Jake: Um, I do know the pedals though, I think was one of 'em. I can't remember what the percentage off on those is gonna be, but that maybe that's the
Matt: 30% because they say up to 30%. Yeah.
Jake: And I think. that they're possibly going to be running some deals on their Rome and their Bolt. And that'd be
Matt: good. Those are awesome computers.
Jake: And that's right ahead of the ACE Pro coming out. So you might want to, I don't know what the duration is. We don't know what the name
Matt: is for the bike computer that's coming. Yes.
Jake: I'm just going to say it. It's called the ACE. Um, that'll be his. I'm telling you, you're not
Matt: supposed to know what the, yeah, anyway, December
Jake: 3rd, sorry, Wahoo.
Matt: Sorry. I love you guys are great,
Jake: but that is what it is. And that'll get announced in the first week of December. So and they've already plugged or like
Matt: they've said December 3rd. So that's been, they, they let the cat out of the bag on the date on that one. So if
Jake: you're looking for a new computer and you don't want what's looking like, it's [00:49:00] going to be a little bit bigger of a footprint.
Jake: Um, it's probably a good time to maybe look into getting a bolt or a Rome if you want to go that direction. I'm
Matt: guessing that you guys. would probably prefer the Roam over whatever's coming up next, right? Because it is going to be so big. I've been using the
Lance: Bolt. I've been using the smallest one. Yeah, which is great.
Lance: My eyes still more or less work good enough to see the Bolt. And I like the smaller footprint. Yeah, I prefer the Roam.
Jake: I, I do. I mean, I don't think it's that much bigger, but I'd like that a little bit of extra real estate. I think it looks nice. It's a good computer. Um, but the Ace, I don't know. I, I really just, I have to have that in my hand.
Jake: I have to put it on the bike and take it out for a ride. Um, I know that we've got a bunch that have already been pre ordered, so we will have them. Um, So again, get on that newsletter because that might behoove you to, uh, to
Matt: find out when
Jake: things are coming out, to find out when things are coming out and to wait on things that don't typically get deals on, take care of you.
Jake: So, dang, yeah. Um, any other deals out there that are going to be rolling out that you guys want to do?
Matt: Um, you know, a company that I'm really excited about that I read about some of their deals, [00:50:00] uh, and, and I don't know, maybe I'm the only one, but silica is a company used to be this Italian company that made bike pumps for bazillions of dollars, but they got purchased by an American guy who has been in the bike industry forever.
Matt: Yeah. And he mostly, he has, he actually has a YouTube channel. That's awesome. You guys should go subscribe to his channel. It's excellent. Uh, but he bought it, I think mostly for the name because it does have this. Huge Italian history to it. And they've always made like super premium products and he's basically extended the brand a good bit doing the kind of stuff that he loves to do, which is make bikes faster, a lot of kind of like free speed stuff, marginal gains.
Matt: Yeah, that's,
Jake: that's his thing. That's his jam.
Matt: And so you'll see stuff like, um, the silica, like wax kit for chains, which of course, you know, decreases, um, drivetrain efficiency or increases efficiency, I guess I should say. And so he has something along the lines of 20 to 40 percent off of all of their like waxing kit stuff And then [00:51:00] if you spend 200 or more, there's 10 percent off I saw from Silka There's also this really nice.
Matt: They have something called like a care box set. So again, if you are shopping for other people, if you're shopping for a cyclist, that might be something nice because that's around 30 percent off and you can kind of get like a little bit of an assortment and a nice little box package with that. So huge fan of his stuff.
Matt: And actually the lab does carry their stuff. stuff. Everything
Jake: that you talked about. Really? We carry a lot of their stuff. So we're one of their, um, their premium dealers, if you will. So we, we've got the full shoot match of everything. He has a whole
Matt: bunch of new stuff to like this waxing kit thing where you've got a bunch of those in as well.
Matt: We can hang your chains and everything. Four
Jake: or five of them come in. Yeah. You can do the waxing component. You can hang them up there to let them dry. I do the whole bit. They've got some really detailed. Step by step products that you can purchase and what's nice is it tells you what everything is but it's all numbered like this is step one This is step two and three four and if you're really into taking care of your bike and getting the most out of the performance and getting the the longevity [00:52:00] that You need out of these components that are expensive.
Jake: It's a good it's a good place to go They are kind of a premium brand. So they are a touch on the more expensive side but Snag it on sale. And it's that time of year. And this is what I was going to talk about. If you're looking to get some stuff and you want to stock up, um, even if it's just something like chain lube or something like that, it's that time of year, get it, buy it this time of year where it's on sale and then use it throughout the entire year, if you want to get yourself some bar tape that you want to slap on there, when you know, springtime rolls around and you're done riding in the crappy weather, it's that time of year, pick that up, um, get all the other little bike cleaning and maintenance and clean, uh, the, Solvents and all that fun stuff.
Jake: I mean tons of deals
Matt: everywhere
Jake: bazillion things and they've got some really cool pumps, too Like their pumps are expensive. Yes, their floor pumps are expensive What's nice about them though is they last forever and if you do have like a if you need to get a new gasket You can purchase those kinds of things and it basically makes your pump brand new again But the stuff is built to last and
Matt: it's like the stuff that you hand on to your grandkids someday.
Matt: It's like correct [00:53:00] Crazy bike pump stuff. But they've
Jake: also got some nice stuff for on the bike too. Some like little hand pumps that work out really well.
Matt: Really? Yeah. What about, um, any sort of like tools for bike, your own bike maintenance? Is there anything that have you guys seen any deals or anything like that?
Matt: They
Lance: make their, they make my favorite, um, Multi tools that I carry with me. Silica does. I love their little multi tools. I was thinking of like
Matt: Parks or something like that, like the
Lance: They do have, uh, yeah, other, other kits, like ratchet kits, and, uh, and, and hex sets that are also on sale. They have, they have great tools on there as well, and a lot of that stuff is on sale as well.
Jake: Nice. Yeah, they make some nice multi tools, but to speak to your point on the park, I have not received any correspondence, um, from park to talk about any kind of black Friday specials. So
Matt: is that something, I didn't know if that was a brand that you guys carry.
Jake: It is. Yeah. The three primaries that we carry for tools are going to be park, silica, and then, um, feedback sports.
Jake: Okay. So those are the three that have been the most popular that we've leaned into. And there's some other brands that we kind of loosely have touched like [00:54:00] Pedro's or where are a few, Yeah, they do make some, there's a little bit more specialty driven, which I kind of like. Yeah. But they have
Matt: like specialty, like, um, you can, you used to be able to like take a different bike and set it up to be a one by with like the wolf tooth stuff.
Matt: And so they're like one of the few companies that had like the alternating chain teeth piece to it. And, um, now SRAM does that, right? So it's not quite as like unique, but back in the day, it was just them.
Jake: Yep. They, um, they're doing really well too. They're actually, they're growing and it's been effective.
Jake: I heard, I was listening to some sort of a podcast at some point in time or watching some video. They are actually taking. On more space and they're, they're broadening their whole, like, you know, product offering and yeah, I think they're getting into a bigger warehouse and they're, they're doing all the right things.
Jake: Do you remember
Matt: where they're headquartered?
Jake: I don't, I'm not off the top of my head, but, um, they're good people. We, we work with them as well. And that's another brand that we carry that we, we quite like. Nice. Um, cool. You got anything else that will answer?
Lance: Uh, I, I don't really. I mean, one of the [00:55:00] things that I use that people don't really like is I use Apple AirPod Pros when I ride.
Lance: Oh, they're on sale. They're on sale. I saw that. Their latest generation is on sale from like 250 down to like 190. The AirPod Pro 2. I thought that was not the latest. It is the
Matt: latest. Are you sure?
Lance: Yeah,
Matt: I'm pretty sure. Okay. Double check that. Because I feel like they had another one, but either way, it's still a pretty monster deal.
Matt: There's AirPod
Lance: 4s
Matt: out,
Lance: but the Pros, the new Pros, maybe there's the Pro 3s
Matt: it up. You're a finger tap away from finding the results. Either way. It's the latest. You're going to get with the pros. You get like noise cancellation. It just syncs with between devices. You can, it kind of automatically figures out if you're on your phone or if you're on your computer, having the AirPods and the AirPod pros, it is a nice product.
Matt: It is expensive. So if you're going to get something like that, snag it on sale.
Jake: If you're like my kids, it makes for a really fun game of hide and go seek. Hey,
Matt: your kids too, huh? Because my kids, Need this [00:56:00] product. And then all of a sudden it's like three weeks later, they're lost. And, uh, they do have a fine.
Matt: My, I was, um,
Ian: watching a, um, um, documentary the other day about built in obsolescence of all of this technology and how, um, it's basically designed to be obsolete in a couple of years, or it's designed to give up. And those. Uh, iPods were mentioned as some of the worst offenders in that after a while they stopped working and they get thrown away and, and end up in landfills and people are just compulsed to.
Ian: Keep buying the latest and greatest as either because they're new features or because the previous one has just gave up and there's, there's no way to repair them. There's no way to dispose of them properly. So
Lance: support is gone for him as well. It's tricky
Matt: because like. Having like a YouTube channel where you're talking about all these new products and you're like, am I part of the problem here?
Matt: The answer is yes. [00:57:00] But also like just that you hate to see these lithium ion batteries that just very frequently die after two years. Yes. And it's, they, they can kind of like claim that they're still working, but they only work, you know, the battery operates at like 35 percent of what it used to work at.
Matt: And so you're getting. You know, half a day out of your watch instead of two weeks. And it's just really frustrating to see all of these products.
Jake: Making suspicion that you're going to see a lot of right to repair law. And true things of that nature, like start to trickle down and companies are going to have to adhere to that.
Jake: And so I'm curious to see how Apple would respond to it. But, um, I, about those AirPods, I've never cared for them. I, Oh, really? Yeah, that's good. I think part of the problem for me though, is they just don't, They're not comfortable. Like if you get them to fit in there, but they're just not comfortable. They kind of hurt in there.
Jake: And I feel like they fall out too easy. I don't know. It's just more, they
Lance: have the pro ones have like a soft ear top with different, with different size, uh, silicone nubs on them.
Matt: Whereas the, the normal air pods are hard plastic. And so you [00:58:00] should try a couple of, not that I, I don't want to sell them on, sell you on them because I also think that like for what they are, they're super expensive.
Matt: They're 260 bucks.
Lance: On
Matt: sale
Lance: now. On sale for like 199. Yeah. That's their top
Jake: shelf.
Lance: So the Apple AirPod Pro 2 is the latest edition. The threes aren't coming out till sometime next year. Okay. Yeah.
Ian: I gotta say, even with my Garmin radar that I always use, I still don't feel super comfortable having a full on.
Lance: Yeah.
Ian: Yeah. Yeah. Something in my ears. That's the other reason why there is, it
Lance: does pick up ambient noise so I can still have a conversation and hear things if I'm riding with my air pods in. The other thing
Ian: is like, yeah, the bone conducting stuff when I'm riding, shocks, shocks, shocks, the sound is not as good.
Ian: By a long way, but
Matt: yeah, it still works. I feel like shocks also has a, they have, um, they have a discount. I'm trying to remember exactly what it was. Uh, I like those headphones as well. They have their, they [00:59:00] have a new headphone called the open run. And I want to say that's like a hundred bucks off or something.
Matt: That's a pretty big discount. And then. A much smaller discount on their swim headphones. So if you are a swimmer, which I know I'm, I'm not really talking to the right group here, but if you are a swimmer and you want headphones for underwater, those things are pretty fantastic. I want to say those were only like 40 bucks off or something like that.
Matt: So it wasn't quite as good of a deal on the swim pair of headphones is the open. open run, whatever they call it. Yeah, the
Jake: open run and the open run pro. We carry those as well. If there's
Ian: ever a sport that needs the distraction of music while you perform again, it's got to be
Jake: swimming. I know. I just, I prefer the bone conduction for a lot of reasons.
Jake: Yes. You're not going to get the same quality, but I just like that. I know that I'm completely, you know, in, in, in the moment. And I can hear everything that's going on around me and I can still hear the, the, the music or the podcast or whatever I'm listening to really well. The only time it becomes a bit of an issue with those is when you're at a high speed, like when you're going downhill, like 27, 28 miles an hour.
Jake: And it's really quick and simple. Just if you want [01:00:00] to, if you're listening to something, you're really trying to pay attention, you just hit the quick pause on the side and then unpause it once you're back to doing your normal thing that works well. And I just don't get that, um, that. That uncomfortableness when I'm wearing those, like I don't like the inside of my ear, does that start to hurt your ears at all?
Jake: After like two or three hours, you're like, you're kind of gets a little bit sore from having those things in
Lance: the air pod. Pros fit my ears perfectly. I've had no issues with them. The batteries will die on him before that. My ears get tired of them and they'd last for five or six hours.
Jake: So the. Air, the shocks too, that's another thing.
Jake: Those things last for like eight to ten hours. So I know that those are going to last for however long I want to go ride. So I'm good there. They're comfortable, um, better ear hygiene as well. I think there's some people that have spoken to the ramifications that come along with wearing, uh, in ear headphones.
Jake: So I don't know. I've just kind of stared away from those.
Lance: Wolf Tooth is in
Jake: Minnesota. Oh, nice.
Lance: Okay.
Jake: That's why they're so nice. Yeah, so is Park Tools. Yeah. Oh,
Matt: okay.
Jake: Um, another one that is coming [01:01:00] down in, we got this email and it's going to be on our website as well, is Pirelli. They're going to be doing a pretty big discount on all of their tires.
Jake: It's fantastic.
Matt: It goes back to what you were saying about like, Grab some of this stuff now because eventually you're gonna need tires. You might as well get it discounted percent.
Jake: So how much do you think they're gonna be discounting their tires, takers, any guessers?
Lance: 15%.
Matt: 25%.
Lance: 40%. Ooh, what? That's 40 dang percent.
Lance: Their road tires are some of the most popular road tires on the market. And they're still marking 'em down. 40%. Yep.
Ian: Right. I've, I've got a brand new P tire in my. Garage that I haven't mounted yet. I'm going to bring it back to the lab and get a refund and then buy it again.
Matt: I actually need to pick up some tires too, cause I have a new wheel set that I need to try them on.
Matt: So I might as well, I kind of want, I kind of want some like tan sidewall because I'm just weird like that for like, anyway, we'll talk, we'll Pearlie's got. Uh, aside from that,
Jake: I can't think of any other like smoke and screaming good [01:02:00] deals that you need to jump on, but it's just that time of year. Like if you need something, Do it.
Jake: Yep. And if you want to go to the dial cycling website, get anything or stop by and say hi and pick up some stuff and we'll take good care of you. There's going to be some good stuff. Some good stuff. I haven't used that in a while. Oh yeah. Good
Matt: stuff. Good stuff.
Jake: All right. You guys want to move on?
Matt: Let's move
Jake: on.
Jake: All right. Sure. How about one last thing?
Matt: Okay, I kind of already did my one last thing. The video that I'm in the middle of editing is the amaze fit T Rex three. Great watch super mega amazing value, very low price for what you get. Um, that video should be out. I'm really hopeful to say tomorrow. And then the next video right after that is going to be black Friday deals, where I am going to talk about a lot of the stuff that we've already talked about on this podcast.
Matt: Cause I'm, I'm reading from my list, but I am also going to talk about some more swim stuff and some more run stuff. So, uh, definitely check out both of those videos coming out this week. If I can get [01:03:00] my butt in gear,
Jake: you can do it. I know faith in you.
Matt: Sleep is overrated.
Jake: Are you done with cross country?
Matt: I'm done with cross country. Okay. However, swim, swim season, I'm coaching swim and that is at 6 a. m. in the dark.
Jake: Okay, so you just get that out of the way, then you got the rest of the day to do your, uh
Matt: Then I just, yeah. Work, kids, it's like driving kids around, it's always busy. And then now, soon, uh, after today, the kids will be out of school.
Matt: So, it's really hard to get work done. Sure. We'll see.
Jake: Ian, you got one last thing for us, bud?
Ian: I guess I do. Uh, just something I just thought of since we were all talking about purchasing various gadgets for our bike. And the only gadget I intend to buy this season now is a express VPN router for my house so that I can get Eurosport on all of my devices at home.
Ian: Because I'm just frustrated and tired of the lack of Coverage of all of these wonderful [01:04:00] bike racing,
Lance: like Floatsports is trash.
Ian: Floatsports
Lance: is not take.
Ian: I don't know about Floatsports, but Max was supposed to offer everything that GCN plus used to offer. It doesn't, it didn't. Even show, uh, Sunday's UCI cyclocross race.
Ian: It showed the Saturday race and then looking ahead, there's nothing in their, um, peacock. I watched great coverage of the tour de France, but they don't do much else. There's flow sports, I guess, as an option. It's such a shame when you do a
Lance: few of them. Like all the cyclocross races have been blocked out in the U.
Lance: S. So if
Ian: you have a V, if you have VPN, as you know, you can
Matt: just say you're from Europe and then it gets tunneled through.
Ian: You
Ian (2): can, you can watch. How does that
Matt: exactly work? I mean, do you, do you plug in like a, so, so here's the way it works. So. Um, there are quite a few of these VPN companies that, and to look at it, it is a more secure way for you [01:05:00] to access the entire internet, right, because you're privately selecting a server to go through in whichever country you can actually choose from a list of countries and you can change that at any time, which is important for what we want to do, which is potentially watch make it look like we are watching a video from a different location.
Matt: So let's say you want to be from Belgium and you can easily select a server in that location. And all of your internet traffic is tunneled through this virtual private network VPN. Now, There are free options out there. There are free options, but, um, there are, most of them are paid or, or usually sometimes it's like freemium.
Matt: So you can like use free for a little while and then they're going to hopefully get you to get on board and pay for a service. Um, and there are so many different options out there for VPNs. Um, One of the ones, I used one for free recently because I wanted to watch the Iron Man race on YouTube and it was blocking all the United States stuff and so it was super easy just to like use a different service and connect through [01:06:00] it.
Matt: Uh, but a lot of times it will require just like an app on your, on your computer to tunnel that traffic. So
Jake: does it go to a different IP address? Your,
Matt: it appears from the website that you are from a different IP address. So, yes, sort of.
Jake: Does that enable you to also like kind of block the, you know, like Google or something like that from tracking all of your, your stuff and getting all this information and data on you.
Matt: So it's, it's, like I said, it's a much more private way to browse the internet because anyone that's looking at you visiting their site, it'll say it came from a different location. Sure. Uh, and so there's some benefits to that. Um, you know, if they're collecting information about you, they're collecting the wrong information about you and things like that.
Matt: So, um, yeah, it's pretty helpful.
Ian: There's things like on, I mean, shopping, if you want to see for example, what a Pinarello would cost you in Italy, there's, there's no way really to do that until you fool the Pinarello website into thinking that you're viewing it from Italy, in [01:07:00] which case you'll get, you'll get the Italian site or you'll get, if you're back in the UK, you'll get You'll get Google UK instead of the US version.
Ian: So it just fools the server, the service into thinking you're somewhere where you're not. And so as Matt said, you can either get an app that sits on your phone or your laptop or whatever. Or what I want to do is get a, get the router. So everything that comes in and out of my house,
Matt: everything is VPN.
Ian: So I can watch Eurosport finally on my big screen TV seamlessly.
Ian: Cool.
Matt: I, um, I think next year I'm going to actually do some sponsorships on my channel, which is going to be fun or annoying for people that watch the channel. But like, uh, one of the sponsors that I'm going to have in January is, uh, it's not a VPN company, but they're a security company and they'll do all this cool stuff.
Matt: Like they'll, I've been using them and they like, they'll like go through and look at, you know, all this like dark web stuff and they'll [01:08:00] pull your name off of all of these lists and things like that, that are out there selling your, you know, contact information. So it's like, it's this suite of services.
Matt: And one of them is like free VPN. I'm like, I'll take that. That's fantastic. So it's like that the real value I think is like getting your name pulled off of all these lists. The company is called aura. They're not paying me to talk about them right now, but it is a nice company because they have all kinds of deals.
Matt: They have like personal plans or family plans or whatever. And it's kind of nice because it's like, it'll block spam. It'll block, You know, weird callers from, you know, spammy kind of callers and spam email. And it'll, it's just kind of like this suite of different features. And VPN is one of their things.
Matt: So nice, nice. Good job, Lance. You have one last
Lance: thing for us? Um, I really don't have anything to talk about. We've got Thanksgiving coming up and you're traveling and I'm, I'm going to Boise with my family that we're kind of, it's a central location we're meeting to just, uh, Just hang out together for Thanksgiving.
Matt: When do you leave?
Lance: Uh, tomorrow morning.
Matt: [01:09:00] Okay.
Lance: Today is Tuesday. I'm leaving tomorrow and I'll be there through Sunday and Traffic gonna be okay traveling on Wednesday? I think so. Yeah. I mean
Matt: Depends on where, but
Lance: yeah. Yeah. It's just a six hour drive from here, so from It's just a six hour drive. To Boise.
Lance: That seems awfully That seems very manageable to me. I know. Gotcha. But, uh, yeah. Weather will be Cold and clear, so like in the 20s, so I'm not sure how much I'm not gonna go skiing, no. I don't think there's enough snow to do that yet. That's it, but enjoy Thanksgiving. It's one day, hang out with your family, eat some food you don't normally eat.
Lance: Um, and that's all I can
Matt: say about that. Should we not bike on
Lance: Thanksgiving? No, yeah, you can do that. Course come on. We do have a team gravel ride happening that morning. Sure do. So
Jake: that's a pretty consistent thing that we've done for a lot of years. Yeah, cool. All right, my one last thing. I want to ask you guys a question though for my one last thing if that's all right.
Jake: Nope. What do you guys want for Christmas and what's on your wish list? We didn't really get into that and I'm kind of curious if there was [01:10:00] a thing on there that someone, well another question Do you guys actually exchange gifts, or have a list that you put out there for people to get things for you just kind of go get what you want for yourself, and that's just kind of how you roll?
Matt: You, this is the thing, it's like, I typically have everything that I would want, and so it's hard to shop for me. My wife's like, I've got some, I've got some secret ideas. I'm like, okay. But, you know, the kind of stuff that I really want, I want some expensive camera stuff, but, I know, but I feel like it's probably not going to happen for Christmas, and so I'm just going to be happy with whatever is under the tree.
Matt: What's the
Jake: camera thing that you want, Mr. Matt? I
Matt: would really love, so I use a 50mm on all of my like talking head shots. Sure. And I have a really Perfectly fine. Perfectly usable, usable, um, cheap 55. We have, we have a ton of the same stuff. It's the 55 millimeter prime lens. It's very affordable and it's fantastic, but I would love like to get.
Matt: A nicer 50 mil, like, cause since I use that shot so [01:11:00] much, like it's like an hour of using that lens, whenever I do a video, um, I would love to get, you know, a fancy 50 millimeter lens. Like there's so many, Sony has a fancy one. The other thing that I don't have is a, is a. which would be really good for taking photos of cyclists, taking photos of runners, um, or just doing, you know, who knows what with it?
Matt: Like, uh, that is
Jake: my most favoritist. Yeah. Yeah. Which is
Matt: like a 70 to 200 makes a lot of sense to have something like that.
Jake: I really like my one to 400 though. I use that. All the time. I, all the time for sports and, and yeah. You know, exactly. All that kinda stuff. And even going out into to nature is great, but yeah, I'm not gonna lie, I wouldn't mind having one of the, the G Master 2.8 70 to 200, I'm throwing numbers out there and yeah.
Jake: Lanard looking at me like, shut up dude. . Yeah,
Matt: I would not mind having, uh, yeah, 70 to 200, 2.8 would. Very choice. You can always add those adapters to them, right? Yeah. Anyway, yep. That's a good lens those two Also, I don't have like I don't have like a really I use macro lenses a lot But I [01:12:00] don't have like a really good macro lens.
Matt: I have like literally been taking my wife's old You know 20 year old Canon lens and adapting it to my Sony and it just kind of It, it works. Yeah. Um, I've done so many videos with it, but at the same time I'm like, Hmm, be nice to have a true Sony macro lens that works with my lens, with my camera. I got one.
Matt: Um, is it the 90 mil? It is the 90 mil. I got it from somebody on Facebook
Jake: and killer deal. And the thing was in excellent, perfect condition. I'm like, when you're not looking, I'm going to swipe that thing. Yeah. You're welcome to use it anytime you want. Yeah. You know where it's at. Cool. So that's Matt. How about you in?
Ian: Yeah. You kind of caught me off guard. I don't know. The aforementioned router, maybe, but my wife and I, we, we're the worst at Christmas in, in a lot of ways. We just like, I'll just send her a link to something I want. And so, and then she'll add to cart. It's like the, it's not what Christmas was supposed to be all about.
Ian: I don't think way, but that's the way we do it. So [01:13:00] we kind of get what we want, but My wife and I,
Jake: we don't exchange Christmas presents. Yeah, that's nice. We just take care of the kids and then we'll go do something together. Or if we want something collectively, we'll kind of just go get it together. But we don't really surprise each other with anything.
Jake: I think we'll implement that. Me
Lance: and my family, we use the app called Wishlist, if you've ever heard of this. Really? Yeah. So it's an app called Wishlist. So between me and my kids and all their significant others, we all, you, you randomly draw a name. And so you get a size, you're only buying a gift for one person and we have like a 50 limit.
Lance: So we just make it simple, nothing big. Is it
Jake: typically something fun or do you get to put in there what you want? And
Lance: then you can link to your name is your wish list. Okay. So you can just put, you know, 20 or 30 things that are, you can all find on Amazon. That's, that's on your wishlist. So it makes it really, and it's secret.
Lance: We don't know who has, who has what name. I did not know this existed. I think
Matt: this is a good thing. I feel like at my [01:14:00] house, it's like, Christmas is throwing up. It's so, so much volume of crap for kids. Like, our tree will be full with crap of stuff. And I'm like, save, let's get some extra swimsuits and throw them under the tree.
Matt: It's like, we're just like, so much stuff. Like, the kids get too much stuff. It'd be nice if it was just like, let's do one thing. Yeah. It's not what Christmas is about. It's not about the gifts, Jake. So yeah,
Lance: that's all we do. We all get together for the gift exchange, but it's only one person. So,
Jake: what is it that you want?
Jake: Not what you need, but what do you want? A new bike. I want a Garmin
Lance: Fenix 8. Do you? I do. Yeah. But I just haven't
Ian: Well, it's not out of You said earlier that your wife once bought you a Harley Davidson. So a Phoenix 8 is not out of the It's not out of the question. She just
Matt: wanted them in the chaps, that's all.
Matt: That was worth good That was
Lance: good
Matt: value for her. And now that's watched
Lance: My, my Christmas gifts from my wife are the, uh, the, [01:15:00] the freedom to go to all these training locations that I'm planning on going in the next year. So
Matt: serious travel coming up. What
Lance: about you,
Jake: Jake? What do I want?
Matt: Yes.
Jake: Oh, I want to string together 12 months of being healthy.
Jake: That would be nice. I hear that's, I hear that's easy. Um, but aside from that, if I had to pick something, gosh, it's probably going to be like Matt. It's going to be camera. Any camera
Matt: stuff? I'm curious. Like I always like, cause you and I kind of, we follow the same stuff and we're into the same things as far as camera stuff goes.
Matt: I would
Jake: love to get a nice 16 to 35. Okay. I don't have one. Um, I have a crappy one. I think I have a F4 or something. I had the same one and I sold it like two years ago. I need to sell that. And they, they have the new, the, the version two of that. And I'm like, uh, but I just can't justify it yet. So I, I, I want it for video stuff and for photography.
Jake: I also
Matt: have a 20 mil prime and it's awesome. Yeah. You should borrow that sometime. I have one. Oh, you do? Okay. You and I have the same stuff. We never talk about like what we have and then all of a sudden it's like, yeah, we have the exact same things.
Jake: Yeah. There's, [01:16:00] there's just so much stuff and I'm such a sucker for, I'm a bigger sucker for um, camera related stuff and audio related stuff than I am for bikes anymore, which is kind of.
Jake: Kind of crazy. Maybe we need to start up the dial photography and cinematography. Yeah, we do. We do. It would work. Yeah. Good times. Let's do it. But, uh, yeah, that's probably the only thing that I could think of, but more, most notably, I just, I need to be a healthy, maybe I just need that training peak subscription and, uh, someone to.
Jake: Pay for a coach. Does anybody know a coach that's got an opening spots to coach me for 2025? Their
Matt: spots are going fast. Give me fast spots left. Ian's got spots left. I know. So by the time this podcast airs, they're going to be gone.
Jake: Yeah, probably. But yeah, that's it. Um, and then my, my, my true one last thing is we've got five days left in this month.
Jake: I, this is the first time I've done no shave November. And yeah, I didn't even notice I've got my five hairs over here and I'm getting ready to trim those bad boys.
Matt: I haven't shaved in over three hours. Yeah,
Jake: that's how to get me. Matt's [01:17:00] beard is bigger than Jake's. Yeah, it's funny because my daughter came home from school.
Jake: She's like, Oh, wow. We're doing this now, huh? She's back in town? She's back in town, yeah. Nice. She's been running around with your neighbor. Okay, good. Doing good things. Are they both back in town? I like, I'll see them. I'll see them soon. They've been on the run, just doing everything. But anyway, I'm going to shut up now.
Jake: I think that's it. Anything else, boys? That's it. All right. We will be back next week with another one of these. Thanks for listening. Until then, bye for now.
